It’s fall of junior year. Homecoming just wrapped, the ACT is on the calendar, and senior year still feels far away.
Then an older friend posts her senior pictures. Suddenly the parent group chat is asking who booked with who.
If you’re planning senior photos for Class of 2028, you’re early. That’s your biggest advantage. Here’s the timeline we give every Minnesota family, so you pick the season and the date instead of taking what’s left.

Your Senior Photo Timeline, Starting Junior Year
Minnesota gives us a short outdoor season. Most seniors want the same stretch of summer and early fall weekends. Snow closes the window fast. Booking early doesn’t mean shooting early. It means holding the date you actually want.

Fall of junior year (right now)
Start a shared Pinterest board with your senior. Save anything you both love, then look for patterns in color, mood, and places.
This is also when we pick our Class of 2028 Senior Rep Team. Reps get a free senior session, referral commissions, and first dibs when 2028 booking opens. Applications close December 1.
Winter of junior year
Choose your photographer. Judge by the galleries, not the price list. Ask who will actually photograph your senior, how they guide posing, and how long galleries take.
Bring your senior into this decision. She’s the one in front of the camera. If she scrolls a photographer’s Instagram and says “that looks like me,” pay attention. That reaction matters more than any package detail.
Spring of junior year
Lock in your date. Summer weekends go first, every single year. Start collecting outfits now, so nobody is shopping in a panic in August.
Summer before senior year
This is peak season. Your session happens, and your gallery arrives within two to four weeks.
Fall of senior year
Yearbook portrait deadlines often land in fall or early winter. Check your school’s date. With a summer session, you’ll have images ready long before anyone asks.
This is also when graduation announcements and grad party plans start. Your gallery covers both, so you’re not scrambling for a photo in April.

Picking Your Season: Summer, Fall, or Snow
Each season changes the feel of your senior photos for Class of 2028.
Summer brings long evenings, green everything, and golden hour that lasts. It’s the most flexible season for outfits and locations.
Fall gives you warm color and cozy layers. In the metro, peak color usually shows up late September into mid-October. Watch the Minnesota DNR Fall Color Finder as your date gets close. Fall dates fill fast, because everyone wants those same few weeks.
Winter is for the senior who wants something nobody else has. Fresh snow and a bright coat look incredible. Just plan around early sunsets.

What Waiting Too Long Actually Costs
We hear the same story every November. A mom realizes the yearbook deadline is three weeks out. The leaves are gone, sunset hits before 5 p.m., and the only open dates are weeknights.
The photos still turn out. But her senior walks in rushed, in an outfit grabbed that morning, feeling like an afterthought.
That’s the part that stings. Senior photos aren’t really about the yearbook. They mark the end of something. They’re the pictures your daughter will look back on when she’s moved out, and the ones you’ll frame in the hallway.
Planning early changes how the whole day feels. Your senior shows up with outfits she loves and a location she picked. She knows what to expect, so she can relax and be herself. And every session includes complimentary mother-daughter photos, so you get a few frames together too.
If you have an older senior at home right now, our Class of 2027 booking timeline covers the shorter runway.

Senior Photos for Class of 2028 in Minneapolis and the Twin Cities
Minneapolis gives you a little of everything within a short drive. Longfellow Gardens has soft florals. Mill Ruins Park and Boom Island mix city stone with river views. Arneson Acres in Edina offers gardens and a classic pergola.
Most seniors pick two spots with different moods, one natural and one urban. That gives you variety without spending half the session in the car. Browse our best senior photo locations in Minneapolis to start your shortlist.
Then pair each location with an outfit. Not sure how many outfits to bring? We break it down by session length.
We photograph seniors all over the Twin Cities, from Minneapolis and St. Paul to Edina, Wayzata, and Minnetonka.
