A South Asian Wedding Rooted in Love, Culture, and Intention

As a South Asian wedding photographer in Minnesota, I have the privilege of documenting ceremonies that carry generations of meaning in every ritual and gesture. Kashmira and Spencer’s wedding in Rochester was exactly that — a day rooted in heritage, shaped by intention, and alive with the kind of joy that makes the whole yard feel electric. Their story began in Boston in May 2022. She grew up across three continents — India, Nigeria, and the United States — driven by a passion for global health. He had spent his career championing educational access for students across America. From the moment their paths crossed, they made complete sense together.

The Ceremony: Sacred Rituals at a Private Residence in Rochester

They chose a private residence in Rochester, Minnesota for their venue. It was an intimate, deliberate choice — and it showed in every frame. The lush greenery served as a natural backdrop. The golden Minnesota sunlight poured through the trees. Most importantly, the space belonged entirely to them and the people who love them most.

The ceremony honored Hindu tradition through sacred rituals, shared prayers, and symbolic gestures. Each moment carried real weight. Nothing felt like decoration.

The Jaimala: The Moment That Said Everything

The jaimala — the garland exchange — stopped me in my tracks. Spencer’s face when Kashmira placed the garland around his neck was pure, unfiltered joy. It filled the whole yard. It spilled into every photograph. No direction needed. No posing. Just two people completely present with each other.

What Multicultural Weddings Teach Me as a Photographer

Multicultural weddings like Kashmira and Spencer’s are my favorite to document. Every element is intentional. Nothing exists as filler. Each ritual serves a purpose — to bind two souls, to honor two families, to mark the beginning of something lasting. As a Minneapolis wedding photographer, I photograph celebrations across the Twin Cities and throughout Minnesota. But sessions like this one remind me why I never want to stop. They ask something of me too — full presence, real reverence, and an eye trained on the emotional truth of every moment.

The Recessional: Rose Petals, Raised Arms, and Pure Celebration

When Kashmira and Spencer walked back through that aisle, the crowd erupted. Red rose petals flew everywhere. Kashmira threw her arms up. Spencer spun her. Guests were laughing and crying at the same time. That recessional had the energy of a concert and the intimacy of a prayer — and I was there for every second of it.

The Details: Chhabra Collections, Manyavar, and Heirloom Jewelry

Kashmira wore an embroidered lehenga from Chhabra Collections — bold, intricate, and completely her. She layered it with gold kundan jewelry and a delicate nath that framed her face perfectly. Spencer wore a pale blue sherwani from Manyavar that was classic, elegant, and unmistakably his style. Together, they looked like they had always been exactly this.

As Seen in South Asian Bride Magazine

This wedding also appears in South Asian Bride Magazine. It is a beautiful example of what happens when two cultures, two families, and two hearts come together without compromise. Moreover, every vendor who contributed to this day brought genuine care and craft. The catering by The Hyderabad Indian Grill was a standout. The decor — curated entirely by family and friends — made the space feel personal in a way no hired designer could replicate.

Why Rochester, Minnesota Is a Beautiful Setting for a South Asian Wedding

Rochester surprises people. Its natural landscape — the open yards, the mature trees, the quiet golden-hour light — creates a stunning canvas for outdoor South Asian ceremonies. As a South Asian wedding photographer in Minnesota, I have photographed celebrations across Minneapolis, St. Paul, Stillwater, and beyond. Rochester holds its own among all of them. If you are planning a ceremony in southern Minnesota, do not overlook it.

At Mycah Bain Photography, we believe every love story deserves to be told fully — with all its color, all its ritual, and all its joy. Kashmira and Spencer gave us a day that did exactly that. Explore more of our wedding photography work here.
