I'm Mycah!

I have been a photographer since 2010 and the owner of Mycah Bain Photography. When I'm not taking photos, I love traveling the world, designing and decorating my home, living the auntie life, running, yoga, reading, kombucha, trying new delicious foods, and happy hour with my besties.

What It Looks Like Behind the Scenes of Growing Multiple Businesses (Overview)

Growing multiple businesses with intention requires clarity, structure, and flexibility. In the podcast, Eden and I explored how each branch of my business fits into the bigger picture.

To learn more about my photography work specifically, you can explore my Minneapolis Photographer page for a deeper look at my services.

Photography Studio: The Heart Behind the Scenes

My photography studio is the foundation of everything.

We are a full team of ten women photographing:

  • Weddings
  • Senior portraits
  • Family sessions

My team leads most of these sessions, which allows me to focus on brand clients and business growth.

Why this matters behind the scenes:
You cannot grow multiple businesses if you remain the bottleneck in your first one.

Rentals + Real Estate: Another Layer Behind the Scenes of Growth

One of the most fun parts of growing multiple businesses for me has been launching The Baddies Stay—my funky, feminine, creativity-drenched Airbnb with a hidden speakeasy.

Setting up multiple short-term rentals has:

  • diversified my income
  • expanded my creative outlets
  • created new opportunities for hospitality

Brand & Nonprofit Photography: My Creative Focus

As I step deeper behind the scenes of growing multiple businesses, brand and nonprofit work has become my favorite creative lane.

I now focus on:

  • brand storytelling
  • business campaigns
  • visual asset creation
  • nonprofit impact narratives

Coaching: Teaching What I’ve Learned Behind the Scenes

Inside my coaching programs, I teach creative entrepreneurs how to:

  • build aligned business systems
  • scale income without burnout
  • design a weekly structure that protects their energy
  • shift money mindset for long-term growth

Coaching grew naturally from years of clients asking how I manage so many branches while still prioritizing travel and rest.

Travel: The Creative Reset Behind Every Big Leap

Travel is a huge part of what happens behind the scenes of my business growth.

To date, I’ve visited 47 countries—most recently:

  • Panama → Colombia
  • Yemen (Socotra)
  • Oman
  • the UAE

Travel resets my creativity and gives me perspective I can’t find anywhere else.

My Weekly Structure: The Backbone Behind the Scenes

Growing multiple businesses requires more structure—not more hustle.

Here’s the rhythm that keeps me grounded:

Monday → CEO Day

No meetings.

No shoots.

Deep thinking, planning, and systems work.

Tuesday–Thursday → Client + Team Days

Meetings, shoots, collabs, operations, errands.

Friday → Flex Day

Admin, creativity, catch-up, or full days off in summer.

This structure keeps all branches of my business aligned without burning me out.

Sabbaticals: The Most Important Behind-the-Scenes Rhythm

Since 2018, I’ve taken a 2–3 month sabbatical every winter.

It started as burnout recovery but has become a core part of my business model.

Last year, when my dad was suddenly diagnosed with cancer, this structure allowed me to:

  • be present with my family
  • still care for clients
  • rely on my incredible team
  • let my business run without me

This is the true purpose of building support systems.

3 Lessons I Shared Behind the Scenes on the Podcast

1. Experimentation is essential

Try things. Pivot. Evolve. It all leads somewhere.

2. You can’t scale chaos

You can scale systems, values, and aligned ideas—not disorganization.

3. Women running multiple businesses is revolutionary

We are building lives our mothers and grandmothers never had access to.

And that matters—deeply.
